Automakers have a responsibility when it comes to speed and safety

The limit’s 100 km/h. So why should any new car let you go twice that? Dec. 29

Many thanks to Gilbert Ngabo for raising the important issue of motor vehicle design and road safety.

For years, carmakers have largely escaped scrutiny and accountability for the absurd levels of power and speed of their products. Indeed, although we know that speed kills, it is often the capacity for speed that is touted in car ads.

It’s time the design of cars reflects the community’s desire for safe roads instead of the success of marketing campaigns for cars.
